A five day training on Natural farming for Krishi Sakhis/Community resource persons (CRPs) under National Mission on Natural farming was organized by PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur in collaboration with Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Hoshiarpur from 17th to 21st November, 2025.
While welcoming the trainees, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Bahowal (Hoshiarpur) shared various farmer welfare activities of KVK with them. He highlighted the importance and scope of Natural farming and motivated them to embrace natural farming for better human, soil and environmental health and sustainability. He also asked the farmers to initiate natural farming practices in a phased manner.
Sh. Sukhpalvir Singh, Agriculture Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Hoshiarpur and Nodal Officer of this mission also interacted with the trainees and said that National Mission on Natural Farming is being implemented through Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and in this context trainings & demonstrations are being conducted and model units are being established in the district.
During this training, experts from PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur shared technical information with the trainees. Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) delivered a detailed lecture on bio-inputs used in natural farming and explained their role in reducing dependence on chemical pesticides and fertilizers. She also spoke about mulching and soil moisture conservation techniques for enhancing soil productivity while Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), discussed the principles of natural farming and their application in fruit and vegetable cultivation. He also spoke on the need for value addition and processing of natural farming produce for realizing more profit. Practical demonstration on preparation of natural farming formulations was also arranged during the training.
The trainees also visited School of Organic and Natural Farming, PAU, Ludhiana during the training where Dr. Sohan Singh Walia, Director and his team of experts guided them regarding latest natural farming techniques and showcased different demonstrations.
On the concluding day of the training, an exposure visit was arranged to the farm of award winning, progressive natural farmer, Sh. Narinder Singh at village Ajjowal. He shared his experiences of natural farming and marketing of natural produce with the trainees during the visit.
