PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur working under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, organized an exposure visit of the learning platform of different paddy residue management technologies at its farm on December 2, 2025.
While addressing the farmers in this event, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur underscored the imperative need to forsake residue burning for the preservation of environment. He elucidated the adverse consequences of crop residue burning and rallied farmers to actively champion the cause of non-burning of paddy residue. Dr. Bons informed that KVK Hoshiarpur had conducted demonstrations and established learning platforms for paddy residue management for showcasing different technologies for direct sowing of wheat in paddy residue fields at its farm. Dr. Bons praised the farmers of the district for effectively managing paddy residue and for achieving minimal residue burning during the rabi season. Furthermore, he imparted valuable insights into integrated pest management strategies in wheat crop sown after managing paddy residue.
For the benefit of the farmers, PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur experts delivered technical lectures during this programme. Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), shed light on the alternate uses of paddy straw for feed, fodder and fuel purposes. He also shared paramount significance of dairy animal management and the formulation of balanced rations while Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) discussed in detail the paddy residue management technologies and the working of different wheat sowing farm machineries -PAU Surface Seeder, PAU Smart Seeder, Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, Zero Till Drill, demonstrated in these fields.
The farmers visited the demonstration plots for gaining first hand information on the performance of the machineries and shared their queries regarding the same with the experts.
