In a bid to empower women financially and socially, the Skill Development Centre of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), conducted a monthly training camp for the members of the ladies wing of PAU Kisan Club. Designed to promote home-made food products and sweets instead of processed food items and adulterated sweets posing a great risk to the human health, the camp catered to the traditional tastes involving novel ways of prepping the recipes with a modern touch. A total of 78 trainees attended the camp, held under the guidance of Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Coordinator of ladies wing of the club, underlined the need for changing the rural landscape by empowering the women to contribute to the fortification of their socio-economic milieu through food processing, garment embellishment and enrichment, etc. Women-centric avenues held an immense scope for diversification within food and garment industries, she observed. “PAU is laying emphasis on training the rural men and women in the preparation of desi bites using new flavours; and in bolstering apparels and textile, which can give additional income to the trainees,” she informed.
Dr Kulvir Kaur, Course Coordinator, welcomed the club members and highlighted the activities of the club.
Mrs Kuldeep Kaur, an expert; Mrs Gurvinder Kaur, a member of the club; and Smt Bindia Jain, clothing expert, demonstrated the making of boondi ka laddoo, kaju katli as well as other sweets in addition to tie and dye using fabric colours.
Mrs Kanwaljit Kaur proposed a vote of thanks and urged the trainees to stimulate fellow rural women also to go in for skill development trainings.
