Dr. Sharanbir Kaur Bal began her professional journey as Assistant Professor (Home Science) at KVK, Kheri, Sangrur in the year 2005. She was promoted to the post of Professor in July 2020 and joined as Head, Department of RMCS in March 2025.
Dr. Bal with over 2 decades of experience contributed significantly in the areas of teaching, research and extension. She has taught 83 undergraduate and postgraduate courses with over 160 contact hours, contributing significantly to curriculum development and revision of UG, PG, Diploma, and Certificate courses in RMCS. She has developed 6 UG practical manuals and contributed to an e-course under National Agricultural Higher Education Project. She was member of National core group committee for framing course curricula for RMCS component constituted by ICAR for implementation of National Education Policy 2020. She was also involved in finalisation of Home Science Syllabus for classes 6th to 10th of Punjab School Education Board as per National Education Policy 2020.
Dr.Bal has guided 3 M.Sc. and 1 Ph.D. students as a Major Advisor. Her research contributions include 50 research papers, 3 books, 6 book chapters, 15 published abstracts, and 10 conference presentations. She has developed two drudgery-reducing technologies for farm women under the AICRP and was awarded two best paper presentation awards in National conferences. She has also contributed to other projects namely “Nutrition Garden” Project, under Sir Rattan Tata Trust, at KVK Samrala (2008-09), “Women Empowerment and Pulses” Project, under Sir Rattan Tata Trust (2007-09) during her service at KVK, Samrala. She was involved in RKVY-SCSP funded project, “Judicious resource management for nutritional security and real income generation through kitchen gardening” (2021-2024) and promoted kitchen gardening across three districts of Punjab.
Dr. Bal has made contributions in field outreach through 48 extension lectures, 40 popular articles, 8 radio/TV talks, 6 extension bulletins, and 11 pamphlets. She has organized 48 short-duration trainings, 25 vocational trainings, 5 in-service, and 5 sponsored trainings.
Apart from academic contributions, she has been actively involved in the co-curricular development of students. Since 2022, she has been serving as the President of the DDMC of the College of Community Science.
