USA-BASED PAU ALUMNUS VISITS PAU, INTERACTS WITH EXTENSION AND AGRONOMY EXPERTS

An alumnus of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Kulbhushan K Grover, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, New Mexico State University (NMSU), visited the Directorate of Extension Education, Communication Centre, and Department of Agronomy at agri-varsity, to deliberate on the potential areas for mutual cooperation and share the common agricultural problems as well as the research findings.

While interacting with the visiting delegate, Dr TS Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education and Communication, informed him about the vast extension network, spread across the Punjab, for the quick dissemination of the latest agriculture-related information to the farmers. Print, electronic and social media tools were being used to the full to update the farmers’ agricultural knowledge and issue them the timely advisories to avert the farm crisis, he said. Further, Dr Dhillon also pointed to the emerging challenges of natural resource depletion, climate as well as economic crises, being faced by the farmers; and the ultimate success achieved via huge slump in controlling farm fires in Punjab. Later, he presented him a token of regard on behalf of PAU.

Dr Hari Ram, Head, Agronomy Department, also shed light on the farm issues cropping-up and how agronomists were on their toes to tackle the on-field and off-field problems through the development and recommendation of the upgraded and the latest farm technologies.

Dr Grover participated in the University Research and Extension Review meeting, wherein he shared his scientific observations concerning Mexico and Punjab. He lauded PAU for scaled-up crop varieties, technologies and achievements at the state, national and international level.

Earlier, he also held an interaction with Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education; Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director Research and Dr Jaspal Singh, Principal Entomologist.
