PAU-KVK AMRITSAR HOSTS FIVE-DAY COURSE ON POLYHOUSE VEGETABLE FARMING

A five days vocational training course on “Protected Cultivation of Vegetable Crops” was organized under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana at KVK, Amritsar from 17.11.2025 to 21.11.2025 in which farmers and rural youth from the districts of Amritsar and Tarn Taran participated. The training course was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Bikramjit Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Amritsar.

On the very first day, Dr. Bikramjit Singh extended a warm welcome to the participants and shared the mandates and working of KVK with them. He highlighted the importance and scope of protected cultivation of vegetables as a subsidiary occupation in agriculture and inspired the trainees to adopt vegetable cultivation for income and employment generation. He also urged the farmers to get maximum benefit of the services provided by the KVK.

Under the expert guidance of Dr Ajay Kumar, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) at KVK Amritsar and the course coordinator, participants gained comprehensive knowledge on various facets of polyhouse structures, low tunnels, as well as traditional and high-tech nursery raising methodologies.

Two exposure visit was also arranged to the farm of the progressive farmers S. Simarbeer Singh of village Sohian Khurd and S. Amritpal Singh of village Hamza where trainees had a fruitful interaction and gained the important tips for cultivation of important vegetables like capsicum, tomato and cucumber under poly house.

During closing ceremony, Dr Ajay Kumar thanked all the participants and motivated them to take up this new venture at new heights in future.
