The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, organized an awareness camp on December 05, 2025, at village Bhanewal (Gatti Rahime Ke) for farm women and rural youth. The camp focused on introducing improved drudgeryreducing tools and equipment designed to ease agricultural operations.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Gurmail Singh Sandhu, (Deputy Director (Trg), KVK Ferozepur) shared detailed information about the various activities of KVK and the training courses offered by PAU. He highlighted that the university provides 10% reservation for students from rural backgrounds, enabling them to pursue higher education in agriculture. He encouraged farm women and youth to actively participate in skill development and training programmes available at the KVK.
Dr. Divya Jain, Assistant Professor (Home Science), informed the women participants about the range of training programmes conducted under the Home Science discipline at KVK—such as tailoring and embroidery, painting, bakery products, Preservation products (i.e. pickles, chutneys, preserves), soap and detergent making,etc. She also introduced PAU-developed tools and technologies that simplify farm-related tasks, including the revolving Pehri for milking animals, maize -sheller, improved sickle, and ring cutter for vegetable harvesting. She motivated women to join KVK trainings, form self-help groups, become self-reliant, and contribute to household income.
Dr. Bhallan Singh Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), addressed the farmers on issues related to stubble management, soil and water testing, and sustainable agricultural practices. He encouraged families to adopt kitchen gardening and shared detailed information on PAU-recommended kitchen garden models and improved techniques for growing fruits and vegetables at home.
At the end, S. Harmesh Singh, Sarpanch of Village, thanked K.V.K. scientists for organising this camp and encouraged participants to join K.V.K. trainings to increase household income.
