The Department of Economics and Sociology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an interaction with a renowned Economist Prof HM Desarda, a former member of Maharashtra State Planning Board and presently working as Professor Emeritus at Mahatma Gandhi Mission University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
While interacting, Prof Desarda made a call for shifting area under paddy in Punjab towards other alternative crops. At the country level for agricultural sustainability in some of the states, he emphasized to bring area under organic and natural farming.
In his welcome address, Dr JM Singh, Head of the department, welcomed Prof Desarda and informed that the purpose of his visit to PAU was studying of ecological and environmental issues, faced by the Punjab agriculture vis-a-vis Maharashtra and to have an interaction with farmers, who had faced losses to their crops during floods.
The interaction concluded with a vote of thanks.
